The Red Electric Guitar – My First
I still remember my first guitar, a red electric guitar made by Kramer. XLIII or XL3 was the model. I was about 15 yours old and really had no idea about guitars other than I wanted one and wanted to start learning.
So off I went into the local shop and spied this Kramer. $299. I had about that amount of money set aside for car insurance because I was going to be getting my license in a month or so when I turned 16. I never ended up getting the car insurance because I came home with that guitar.
I played that thing to death. It was in bad shape as far as needing a good set up by technician. Luckily, my father had a guitar playing friend who was quite gifted with setting up guitars. He set this little red electric guitar up and it played like butter. Everyone was quite impressed with it.
Eventually, I got the pickups replaced with some sweet Dimarzios and then it really started sounding great. Well, as good as I could get with my father’s bass amp and a crappy Arion distortion pedal.
Times have really changed from those old days of playing cheapo guitars. But one thing is for sure, you can get a cheap $300 guitar now that is a heck of a lot nicer than the one that I had. They make them a lot better now!
