Starting a guitar blog

Guitarists love playing guitar.  Even more than that though, they love talking about their guitars!  And the internet is a great place to connect with other guitarists and talk about all types of musical pursuits.  There are plenty of ways you can go about it, such as by frequenting blogs, chat-rooms and forums.

That might not be enough though, and you might feel like you have plenty of your own things to say that aren’t being covered on other blogs, that you can’t really explore properly with the sort of detail typical of chatrooms and internet forums.  If this is the case then you can consider starting up a guitar blog of your very own.

If you’ve never run a blog before, you can easily sign up for one of the many free hosted services out there.  The main benefit here is that it’s extremely simple to do, and you don’t have to spend a cent.  Often, you will be up and blogging within 2 or 3 minutes for registering for a new blog.  The most popular free blog services are Blogger and Wordpress.Com, but there are hundreds if not thousands of others out there.

Alternatively, you can set up a blog on your own hosting and domain.  This is more work, and does involve some modest expense.. although it is pretty cheap and easy too.  The benefit here is that you get complete control and ownership of your new guitar blog.  If you do this, you will need a blogging platform of sorts.  Wordpress is by far the most popular blogging platform, and it is available free.  There are many guitar themes for wordpress available, such as the rock guitar theme.  However, if you don’t like Wordpress then there are plenty of other blogging platforms to choose from.

Once you’ve got your blog set up and running, all you need is to keep updating it, and to share what you have with interested readers.  It’s your blog, so don’t feel limited about what you’d like to post up.. ideas, comments, reviews, advice, opinions, lessons, exercises.. anything at all!  And when you have content that you feel like sharing, make sure that people notice it by submitting it to social networking services, and by linking to it when you leave helpful and constructive comments on other people’s blogs.

Have fun and happy guitar blogging!
