Cheap Guitars – The Alternative To The More Expensive Guitars
It seems like just about every guitar brand now, unless you are looking at some serious custom stuff, has some cheaper options. Some of these are sometimes just as good as the real thing. Sure, they are usually made in places where it is cheaper to manufacture these guitars and the parts may not be made of the top quality materials but these should not be overlooked.
Back when I first started playing guitars, there were all kinds of cheaper guitars but the quiality just was not there. Nowadays, you can get some really great instruments without having to spend a crazy amount of money.
Here are just a couple examples of what I mean:
1. Gibson’s Epiphone line.
Gibson didn’t really start this line of guitars, they bought them back in 1957. I’m not going to give you a history lesson about this though because that kind of thing can already be found on the web — like Epiphone’s Wikipedia page.
The cool thing is that what Gibson did was make some great copies of many of their classic models into Epiphone versions. These are a bit cheaper but still excellent quality instruments. You’ll get great copies of the Les Paul, Explorer, Flying-V, Thunderbird, ES-335, and many more.
Not only are they producing these great Gibson guitar copies, but they also have some excellent models dedicated to just Epiphone to round out the line. You’ll find guitars like The Coronet, The Broadway, The Supernova, The Flamekat and many more there as well.
When you are looking for Gibson quality but have a bit of a budget, these guitars are a great compromise….actually, I wouldn’t even call it comprimising! This line of guitars has come a long way and even though they are less expensive, they are still quality musical instruments.
2. Fender’s Squier line.
Much like Gibson, Fender also has their own budget line of guitars. Again, no need for a history lesson. Don’t want to bore you. Here’s some great history on Squier guitars if you are interested though.
When I was in high school, a good friend of mine had a black Squire strat. Sweet guitar. Well, I say that, I never actually played it because he was left handed and had to string it backwards a la Jimi Hendrix.
Anyway, if you find yourself strapped for cash for a real Stratocaster, Telecaster, Fat Strat or Deluxe Strats or Teles, you can always go with a Squire. Like the Epiphone, these are a great alternative to the real thing with Fenders.
That’s just a couple ways that you can save a little money and get some good bang for your buck with guitars! Stay tuned for more!
