Rock Out With Rock Guitar

Music has been around since people discovered that inanimate objects could make noise that was appealing to the ears, a beat that could go along with ritual and social gatherings. Than was a long, long time ago and today, music has such an effect on people that almost anyone will tell that it is the sound of music that evokes emotions in them more than anything else. Of course, music has evolved a lot since its beginnings. New instruments have been introduced, new ways of making music and it gets more and more innovative every day! However, there is one musical sound that came onto the scene in the last century that has been evolving ever since and that is the sound of the rock guitar. Elvis Presley was probably one of the first and certainly the most well-known guitar rock musicians to take the world by storm with his heavier, more upbeat, rocking sound that is still as popular today as it ever was.

Guitar Rock certainly did not go away With Elvis in the 50’s. In the decades that followed rock legends like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughn and probably the most well-known and famed guitarist, Jimmy Hendrix brought their own sounds into world and helped define the rock guitar sound we hear today. In fact, most guitar songs today are heavily influenced by songs from decades past and even most modern musicians will tell you that themselves. The roots were laid down and the generations that followed perfected it, added to it and gave it a modern sound that characterizes today’s guitar sound.

The interesting thing about guitar, whether it be heavy rock or acoustic rock is how hard the instrument is to play and how much dedication needs to go into it to become even a modest player. We are talking hours of practicing a day, deciphering confusing music sheets and tabs, calluses on the fingers and sore wrists. But, every guitar player I have ever known is so dedicated to their art that all of these things are just minor setbacks in their quest to be the next big rock star. Guitar players are notoriously known for not being able to put their guitar down even at the dinner table so that should say a lot.

If you have never picked up a guitar and would like to, there are many books and websites available that can teach you the basics. Take a guitar lesson or two and remember that practice makes perfect!
