Choosing to use guitar lessons for kids opens a broader range of musical experience to your child. The guitar is often not a basic instrument that is taught within a traditional school music program. By trying some of the free programs, your child can make a better decision as to whether or not it is an instrument they would like to pursue on a long term basis.
